**Halbs** is an *Ortsgemeinde* – a community belonging to a *[Verbandsgemeinde](/source/Verbandsgemeinde)* – in the [Westerwaldkreis](/source/Westerwaldkreis) in [Rhineland-Palatinate](/source/Rhineland-Palatinate), [Germany](/source/Germany).

## Geography

### Location

Halbs lies 3 km north of [Westerburg](/source/Westerburg) on a bank in the middle of a wooded and field area. Since 1972 it has belonged to what was then the newly founded [*Verbandsgemeinde* of Westerburg](/source/Westerburg_(Verbandsgemeinde)), a kind of collective municipality.

Bordering on Halbs are [Ailertchen](/source/Ailertchen), [Hergenroth](/source/Hergenroth) and [Stahlhofen am Wiesensee](/source/Stahlhofen_am_Wiesensee).

## Politics

The municipal council is made up of 9 council members, including the extraofficial mayor (*Bürgermeister*), who were elected in a [majority vote](/source/Plurality_voting_system) in a municipal election on 7 June 2009.

## Economy and infrastructure

North of the community runs *[Bundesstraße](/source/Bundesstra%C3%9Fe)* 255, leading from [Montabaur](/source/Montabaur) to [Herborn](/source/Herborn_(Hesse)). The nearest [Autobahn](/source/Autobahn) [interchange](/source/Interchange_(road)) is *[Diez](/source/Diez,_Germany)* on the [A 3](/source/Bundesautobahn_3) ([Cologne](/source/Cologne)–[Frankfurt](/source/Frankfurt_am_Main)). Halbs also had a stop at the Cross Westerwald railway ([Montabaur](/source/Montabaur) - [Wallmerod](/source/Wallmerod) - [Westerburg](/source/Westerburg) - [Rennerod](/source/Rennerod) - Herborn) which is out of service for passenger trains, today the nearest accessibility to train service is [Westerburg station](/source/Westerburg_station) at the [Limburg-Altenkirchen railway](/source/Limburg-Altenkirchen_railway) (RB90). The nearest [InterCityExpress](/source/InterCityExpress) stop is the [railway station](/source/Railway_station) at Montabaur on the [Cologne-Frankfurt high-speed rail line](/source/Cologne-Frankfurt_high-speed_rail_line).
