{{Short description|Biblical city}}
{{Other uses|Halah (name)}}
'''Halah''' ({{langx|he|חֲלַח|Ḥălạḥ}}; {{langx|la|Hala}}) is a city that is mentioned in the [Bible](/source/Bible) in [2 Kings](/source/2_Kings) 17:6 and in [1 Chronicles](/source/1_Chronicles) 5:26.<ref>[https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=1Chr%205:26 Bible Gateway website, 1 Chronicles 5:26, ''So the God of Israel stirred up the spirit of Pul king of Assyria (that is, Tiglath-Pileser king of Assyria), who took the Reubenites, the Gadites and the half-tribe of Manasseh into exile. He took them to Halah, Habor, Hara and the river of Gozan, where they are to this day.'']</ref> Modern historians are unsure of its location.<ref>{{cite journal |last1=Schneider |first1=Tammi |title=Through Assyria's Eyes: Israel's Relationship with Judah |journal=CGU Faculty Publications and Research |date=1 January 2002 |pages=13–14 |url=https://scholarship.claremont.edu/cgu_fac_pub/53/ |access-date=7 February 2024}}</ref><ref>{{cite web|url=https://www.biblicalcyclopedia.com/H/halah.html |title=Halah|author=<!--Not stated-->|date=|website=McClintock and Strong Biblical Encyclopedia |publisher=|access-date=2024-04-04|quote=}}</ref>

When [Tiglath Pileser III](/source/Tiglath_Pileser_III) and later [Sargon II](/source/Sargon_II) invaded the [Kingdom of Israel](/source/Kingdom_of_Israel_(Samaria)), the Israelites were taken captive from [Gilead](/source/Gilead) and [Samaria](/source/Samaria) respectively and resettled in Halah and [Gozan](/source/Tell_Halaf) on the [Khabur River](/source/Khabur_(Euphrates)) in the [Aram-Naharaim](/source/Aram-Naharaim) region, as well as in the towns of the [Medes](/source/Medes).{{citation needed|date=February 2024}}

The name should not be confused with the Assyrian city of [Calah](/source/Calah) nor with Cilicia (Khilikku or Khilakku, in [Assyrian](/source/Akkadian_language)) in Asia Minor, but is considered to be identical with the location near Gozan referred to as ''Chalcitis'' by Ptolemy.{{citation needed|date=February 2024}}
