The '''Halabiye Dam''' (or '''Zalabiye Dam''') is a proposed dam on the [Euphrates](/source/Euphrates) in [Deir ez-Zor Governorate](/source/Deir_ez-Zor_Governorate), [Syria](/source/Syria). It will be the fourth and most southern dam on the Syrian Euphrates, after the [Tishrin Dam](/source/Tishrin_Dam), the [Tabqa Dam](/source/Tabqa_Dam) and the [Mansoura Dam](/source/Mansoura_Dam).
==Project==
The proposed location for the dam is the narrow gap in the Euphrates valley northwest of [Deir ez-Zor](/source/Deir_ez-Zor) that is created by [basalt](/source/basalt) outcrops on the left and right river banks. It is expected that dry areas will be brought under cultivation with irrigation water provided by the dam.<ref name=businessdeirezzor>{{cite book |url=http://www.undp.org.sy/files/Old%20Souks.pdf |title=Reviving the business climate and boosting tourism in Deir Ezzor |author=Government of the Syrian Arab Republic State Planning Commission & the United Nations Development Programme |year=2008 |accessdate=18 March 2011 |url-status=dead |archiveurl=https://web.archive.org/web/20111008095802/http://www.undp.org.sy/files/Old%20Souks.pdf |archivedate=8 October 2011 }}</ref> In preparation of this project, the director of the Syrian [Directorate-General of Antiquities and Museums](/source/Directorate-General_of_Antiquities_and_Museums) (DGAM) appealed in 2009 to international teams of archaeologists to participate in the [rescue excavations](/source/Rescue_archaeology) of the archaeological sites that would be threatened by the construction of the dam and the flooding of its [reservoir](/source/reservoir). These excavations were expected to be carried out between 2010 and 2012.<ref>{{cite web |url=http://studiaorontica.org/library/Circulaire_Hallabiyen.pdf |title=Nouveaux aménagements hydrauliques sur le Moyen Euphrate syrienne.
