Hudson's pro career extended for 13 seasons (1944–55; 1957). He earned his big-league trial with the Browns after compiling a 16–5 [win-loss record](/source/win%E2%80%93loss_record_(pitching)) and a 3.08 [earned run average](/source/earned_run_average) for the [Triple-A](/source/Triple-A_(baseball)) [Toronto Maple Leafs](/source/Toronto_Maple_Leafs_(International_League)) in 1951. He was treated roughly in his [American League](/source/American_League) debut on April 20, 1952, allowing two [hits](/source/hit_(baseball)), two [bases on balls](/source/bases_on_balls) and four [earned run](/source/earned_run)s in two-thirds of an [inning](/source/inning_(baseball)) against the White Sox.
