**Hackford Road** is a road in Oval, [Lambeth](/source/Lambeth), south London, England. It runs north–south and is located between [Clapham Road](/source/Clapham_Road) ([A3](/source/A3_road)) to the west and [Brixton Road](/source/Brixton_Road) ([A23](/source/A23_road)) to the east. To the north is the [Oval tube station](/source/Oval_tube_station).

The artist [Vincent van Gogh](/source/Vincent_van_Gogh) (1853–1890) lived at [87 Hackford Road](/source/87_Hackford_Road_(Van_Gogh)), then the house of Ursula Loyer and her daughter Eugenie, in 1873 and 1874.[1] He wrote to his brother [Theo van Gogh](/source/Theo_van_Gogh_(art_dealer)) from this address.[2] He arrived in London to start work at the art dealership [Goupil & Co.](/source/Goupil_%26_Co.) in [Southampton Street](/source/Southampton_Street,_London), central London, on 19 May 1873.[3]

From August of that year, van Gogh lived in Hackford Road.[4] His stay is now recorded with a [blue plaque](/source/Blue_plaque), installed a hundred years later in 1973. He sketched the [Georgian](/source/Georgian_architecture) terrace opposite [Durand School](/source/Durand_School) in Hackford Road during the 1870s.[5] There is a small [conservation area](/source/Conservation_area), first designated in 1974, which includes the house where van Gogh lived.[6]

The [Type Museum](/source/Type_Museum), opened in 1992, is located at 100 Hackford Road, at the southern end.
