# HMS Clyde

Ten ships of the [Royal Navy](/source/Royal_Navy) have been named **HMS *Clyde*** after the [River Clyde](/source/River_Clyde) that runs through the city of [Glasgow](/source/Glasgow), [Scotland](/source/Scotland). For **His Majesty's Naval Base Clyde** see [HMNB Clyde](/source/HMNB_Clyde).

- [HMS *Clyde* (1796)](/source/HMS_Clyde_(1796)) was a 38-gun [fifth rate](/source/Fifth_rate) launched in 1796 and sold in 1814.
- [HMS *Clyde* (1805)](/source/HMS_Clyde_(1805)) was a 4-gun tender purchased in 1805 and sold in 1826.
- [HMS *Clyde* (1828)](/source/HMS_Clyde_(1828)) was a 46-gun fifth rate launched in 1828. She became a drill ship for the [Royal Naval Reserve](/source/Royal_Naval_Reserve) in 1870, and was sold in 1904.
- [HMS *Clyde* (1859)](/source/HMS_Clyde_(1859)) was a wooden screw [gunboat](/source/Gunboat) launched in 1859, used a [survey vessel](/source/Survey_vessel) from 1872 and sold in 1875.
- [HMS *Clyde* (1900)](/source/HMS_Clyde_(1900)) was a paddle vessel launched in 1900 and wrecked in 1951.
- [HMS *Clyde*](/source/HMS_Wild_Swan_(1876)) was an [*Osprey*-class sloop](/source/Osprey-class_sloop) screw [sloop](/source/Sloop-of-war) launched as [HMS *Wild Swan*](/source/HMS_Wild_Swan_(1876)) in 1876, converted to a base ship and renamed HMS *Clyde* in 1904, renamed HMS *Columbine* in 1912 and sold in 1920.
