# HMS Aquilon

Three [ships](/source/Ship) of the [Royal Navy](/source/Royal_Navy) have been named **HMS *Aquilon***, to commemorate the destruction of the [French ship *Aquilon*](/source/French_ship_Aquilon) by [HMS *Antelope*](/source/HMS_Antelope_(1741)) in 1757. [Aquilon](/source/Aquilo_(god)) was originally the [Roman](/source/Ancient_Rome) name for the North Wind.

- [HMS *Aquilon* (1758)](/source/HMS_Aquilon_(1758)) of 1758 was a [sixth-rate](/source/Sixth-rate) [frigate](/source/Frigate) which served in the navy until 1776.
- [HMS *Aquilon* (1786)](/source/HMS_Aquilon_(1786)) of 1786 was a [fifth-rate](/source/Fifth-rate) [frigate](/source/Frigate) during the [French Revolutionary](/source/French_Revolutionary_Wars) and [Napoleonic Wars](/source/Napoleonic_Wars), broken up in 1815.
- HMS *Aquilon* was a small warship which was renamed [HMS *Conquerant*](/source/HMS_Conquerant) before commissioning.

Another [*Aquilon*](/source/Spanish_ship_Aquilon_(1754)) was captured in Havana in 1762 and commissioned into the Royal Navy, serving until 1770.
