**Hedgehog interacting protein** (**HHIP**) is a [protein](/source/Protein) that in humans is encoded by the *HHIP* [gene](/source/Gene).[5][6][7]

This gene encodes a [protein](/source/Protein) similar to the mouse hedgehog interacting protein, a regulatory component of the [Hedgehog signaling pathway](/source/Hedgehog_signaling_pathway). Members of the hedgehog family are evolutionarily conserved proteins which are involved in many fundamental processes in embryonic [development](/source/Developmental_biology), including [anteroposterior](/source/Anteroposterior#Anterior_and_posterior) patterns of limbs and regulation of left-right asymmetry.[7]
