**HD 117207** is a [star](/source/Star) in the southern [constellation](/source/Constellation) [Centaurus](/source/Centaurus). With an [apparent visual magnitude](/source/Apparent_visual_magnitude) of 7.24,[3] it is too dim to be visible to the naked eye but can be seen with a small telescope. Based upon [parallax](/source/Stellar_parallax) measurements, it is located at a distance of 105.4 [light-years](/source/Light-year) (32.3 [parsecs](/source/Parsec)) from the [Sun](/source/Sun). The star is drifting closer with a [radial velocity](/source/Radial_velocity) of −17.4 km/s.[1] It has an [absolute magnitude](/source/Absolute_magnitude) of 4.67.[1]

This object has a [stellar classification](/source/Stellar_classification) of G7IV-V,[4] showing blended [spectral traits](/source/Stellar_spectrum) of a [G-type main-sequence star](/source/G-type_main-sequence_star) and an older, [evolving](/source/Stellar_evolution) [subgiant star](/source/Subgiant_star). It is around four[3] billion years old with 5%[7] greater mass than the Sun and a 7% larger radius.[5] The star is radiating 1.16 times the [luminosity of the Sun](/source/Luminosity_of_the_Sun) from its [photosphere](/source/Photosphere) at an [effective temperature](/source/Effective_temperature) of 5,644 K.[5]

In 2005, a planet was found orbiting the star using the [radial velocity method](/source/Radial_velocity_method), and was designated [HD 117207 b](/source/HD_117207_b).[8][9] The [orbital elements](/source/Orbital_elements) of this planet were refined in 2018, showing an [orbital period](/source/Orbital_period) of 7.18 years, a [semimajor axis](/source/Semimajor_axis) of 3.79 [AU](/source/Astronomical_unit), and an [eccentricity](/source/Orbital_eccentricity) of 0.16. The [minimum mass](/source/Minimum_mass) of this object is nearly double that of [Jupiter](/source/Jupiter). If an inner planet is orbiting the star, it must have an orbital period no greater than 3.46 years to satisfy Hill's criteria for dynamic stability.[3] In 2023, the inclination and true mass of HD 117207 b were determined via [astrometry](/source/Astrometry).[10]
