**HD 101930**, also known as **GJ 3683**, is an orange hued [star](/source/Star) with an orbiting [exoplanet](/source/Exoplanet) located in the southern [constellation](/source/Constellation) [Centaurus](/source/Centaurus). It has an [apparent magnitude](/source/Apparent_magnitude) of 8.21,[1] making it faintly visible in [binoculars](/source/Binoculars) but not to the [naked eye](/source/Naked_eye). The system is located relatively close at a distance of 98 [light years](/source/Light_year)[2] but is receding with a heliocentric [radial velocity](/source/Radial_velocity) of 18.4 [km/s](/source/Metre_per_second).[6] It has a relatively large [proper motion](/source/Proper_motion), traversing the [celestial sphere](/source/Celestial_sphere) with an [angular velocity](/source/Angular_velocity) of 0.320[″](/source/Second_of_arc)·yr−1.[13]

## Description

HD 101930 has a [stellar classification](/source/Stellar_classification) of K2 V+,[4] indicating that it is an ordinary [K-type main-sequence star](/source/K-type_main-sequence_star). It has an estimated age of 5.4 [billion years](/source/Billion_years),[8] which is slightly older than the [Sun](/source/Sun). The object has 87% the [radius of the Sun](/source/Radius_of_the_Sun)[7] and an [effective temperature](/source/Effective_temperature) of 5,079 [K](/source/Kelvin).[6] When combined, these parameters yield a [luminosity](/source/Luminosity) 43% that of the [Sun](/source/Sun) from its [photosphere](/source/Photosphere).[8] As expected with planetary hosts, HD 101930 is metal enriched, having a [metallicity](/source/Metallicity) 26% above solar levels.[10] The star's [projected rotational velocity](/source/Projected_rotational_velocity) is similar to the Sun's, having a value of 2 [km/s](/source/Metre_per_second).[11]

A 2007 multicity survey found a co-moving companion located 73[″](/source/Second_of_arc) away,[14] making it a [binary star](/source/Binary_star). It has a class of M0-1[15] and a [mass](/source/Mass) of 0.7 [M☉](/source/Solar_mass).[14]

## Planetary system

In 2005, the discovery of an exoplanet orbiting the star was announced. This is another discovery using the [radial velocity method](/source/Radial_velocity_method) with the [HARPS spectrograph](/source/HARPS_spectrograph). As the [inclination](/source/Inclination) of the [orbital plane](/source/Orbital_plane) is unknown, only a lower bound on the mass can be determined. It has at least 30% of the [mass of Jupiter](/source/Mass_of_Jupiter).[6]
