**Gustavo Heide** (born 28 February 2002) is a Brazilian professional [tennis](/source/Tennis) player. He has a career-high [ATP](/source/Association_of_Tennis_Professionals) singles ranking of No. 142 achieved on 19 August 2024 and a doubles ranking of No. 197, reached on 2 October 2023.[1] He is currently the No. 2 singles player from Brazil.[2]

## Career

### 2020: Juniors

Heide had good results on the [ITF junior circuit](/source/ITF_junior_circuit), maintaining a 79–26 singles win-loss record and reached an [ITF](/source/International_Tennis_Federation) junior combined ranking of No. 16 on 24 February 2020.[3]

### 2023: First Challenger singles final, Top 250

Heide made it into his first singles Challenger final at the [2023 Open Bogotá](/source/2023_Open_Bogot%C3%A1) but withdrew before the match handing the title to [Thiago Agustin Tirante](/source/Thiago_Agustin_Tirante).[4] Despite this, he reached the top 250 climbing more than 50 positions up in the rankings on 2 October 2023.[5]

At the [2023 Pan American Games](/source/2023_Pan_American_Games), Heide [almost won a medal in singles](/source/Tennis_at_the_2023_Pan_American_Games_%E2%80%93_Men's_singles), despite being only No. 252 in the world. He reached the semifinals, where he faced the tournament's top seed [Facundo Díaz Acosta](/source/Facundo_D%C3%ADaz_Acosta), ranked No. 109 in the world, and had match-point to close the game, but ended up losing in the tiebreak of the last set. In the bronze medal match, against compatriot [Thiago Monteiro](/source/Thiago_Monteiro_(tennis)), he also lost in the last set tiebreak.[6][7] In [doubles](/source/Tennis_at_the_2023_Pan_American_Games_%E2%80%93_Men's_doubles), Heide, playing with [Marcelo Demoliner](/source/Marcelo_Demoliner), overcame the pro-Chilean crowd and took gold.[8]

At the [Montevideo Challenger](/source/2023_Uruguay_Open), Heide reached the semifinals, losing again to Acosta.[9]

For winning the IV [Maria Esther Bueno Cup](/source/Maria_Esther_Bueno_Cup) at the end of 2023, Heide earned an invitation to compete in the [ATP 500 in Rio de Janeiro](/source/Rio_Open), in February 2024.[10]

### 2024: ATP, Major and top 150 debuts, Challenger singles title

Heide participated in the tie between Brazil and Sweden for the Davis Cup World Qualifier, in February 2024.[11]

At the ATP 500 tournament in [Rio de Janeiro](/source/2024_Rio_Open), he made his ATP debut as a wildcard, where he faced Chilean [Tomás Barrios Vera](/source/Tom%C3%A1s_Barrios_Vera) but lost in the first round.[12]

In March, Heide reached the semifinals of the [Challenger in Santiago](/source/2024_Challenger_de_Santiago_%E2%80%93_Singles)[13] and soon after, at the inaugural [Challenger in Asunción](/source/2024_Paraguay_Open_%E2%80%93_Singles), Paraguay, he reached the final, defeating world No. 95 and top seed [Juan Pablo Varillas](/source/Juan_Pablo_Varillas).[14] He won the championship match, lifting his maiden title by defeating his compatriot [João Fonseca](/source/Jo%C3%A3o_Fonseca_(tennis)) and made his top 200 debut at world No. 159 on 10 June 2024, moving more than 50 positions up in the rankings.[15][16]

Ranked No. 174 at the time, Heide qualified for his first Grand Slam at the [2024 French Open](/source/2024_French_Open) after defeating [Lukáš Klein](/source/Luk%C3%A1%C5%A1_Klein), [Bu Yunchaokete](/source/Bu_Yunchaokete), and [Matteo Gigante](/source/Matteo_Gigante) in the qualifying competition.[17]
