**Gunnar Holmgren** (born June 23, 1999) is a Canadian [cross-country](/source/Cross-country_cycling) mountain biker and [cyclo-cross](/source/Cyclo-cross) cyclist.[1][2] He won the [cross-country](/source/Cycling_at_the_2023_Pan_American_Games_%E2%80%93_Men's_cross-country) race at the [2023 Pan American Games](/source/2023_Pan_American_Games).[3]

## Early and family life

Holmgren grew up in a sporting, outdoors environment, with his parents Robert and Lisa both being keen mountain bike racers and his family living on the [Hardwood Ski and Bike](/source/Hardwood_Ski_and_Bike) facility. Despite this, Gunnar's first sport was [figure skating](/source/Figure_skating), which he competed in at a high level until the age of 14, when he switched to cycling. He is the older brother of fellow racing cyclists [Ava](/source/Ava_Holmgren) and [Isabella Holmgren](/source/Isabella_Holmgren).[4]

## Career

At the [2024 Mountain Bike World Cup](/source/2024_UCI_Mountain_Bike_World_Cup) round in [Nové Město na Moravě](/source/Nov%C3%A9_M%C4%9Bsto_na_Morav%C4%9B) in May, Holmgren scored a personal best of eighth, the day after his sister Isabella won on her Under-23 World Cup debut at the same venue.[4] That same year, Gunnar and Isabella were named to [Canada's 2024 Olympic team](/source/Canada_at_the_2024_Summer_Olympics).[5]
