'''''Gunflintia''''' is an [extinct](/source/Extinction) [genus](/source/genus) of [cyanobacteria](/source/cyanobacteria) that once existed in what is now [Canada](/source/Canada) and [Australia](/source/Australia). It was about five [micrometre](/source/micrometre)s wide, and is known for being one of the first [oxygen-producing](/source/Oxygen_evolution) cyanobacteria, which helped raise [oxygen](/source/oxygen) levels in the [atmosphere](/source/atmosphere), making [Earth](/source/Earth) more habitable for other oxygen-using organisms. It is also one of the most common [fossil](/source/fossil)s in the [Gunflint chert](/source/Gunflint_chert).
