Born in [Turin](/source/Turin), Chiesa graduated in philosophy and letters with a thesis in cinema, and subsequently moved to [New York City](/source/New_York_City) where he was the correspondent of several music magazines as well as the assistant of film directors such as [Michael Cimino](/source/Michael_Cimino), [Amos Poe](/source/Amos_Poe) and [Jim Jarmusch](/source/Jim_Jarmusch), among others.<ref name=bio>{{cite news|last=Si.
