== History ==
Before the [Spanish conquest of the Muisca](/source/Spanish_conquest_of_the_Muisca) of the central highlands of the Colombian [Andes](/source/Andes), the [Altiplano Cundiboyacense](/source/Altiplano_Cundiboyacense), the area was inhabited by the [Muisca](/source/Muisca_people) who spoke [Chibcha](/source/Chibcha_language). == Etymology ==
According to [friar](/source/friar) and [Muisca scholar](/source/List_of_Muisca_scholars) [Bernardo de Lugo](/source/Bernardo_de_Lugo) the name Guasca is derived from ''guâ'', "mountain range" and ''shucâ''; "skirt".
