# Gregg Sutton

**Gregg Sutton** (July 1, 1949 – October 22, 2023) was an American musician, songwriter, guitarist, singer, and bassist, who lived in Los Angeles. He was a member of the country rock band [Lone Justice](/source/Lone_Justice) from 1985 to 1987, and wrote or co-wrote songs for other artists.

## Career

Sutton joined Lone Justice as their bassist shortly after the release of their debut album, and appeared on their 1986 album *[Shelter](/source/Shelter_(Lone_Justice_album))*.[1]

During the 1980s, he played bass for [Bob Dylan](/source/Bob_Dylan) on *[Real Live](/source/Real_Live)* (1984). He also played bass for [Barry Goldberg](/source/Barry_Goldberg), [Sass Jordan](/source/Sass_Jordan), Carla Olson, [Mick Taylor](/source/Mick_Taylor), [Dave Alvin](/source/Dave_Alvin), Coup de Grace, The Pets, KGB (along with [Carmine Appice](/source/Carmine_Appice)), [Tony Gilkyson](/source/Tony_Gilkyson), [Avery Sharpe](/source/Avery_Sharpe) and [Katy Moffatt](/source/Katy_Moffatt).

In 1979, Sutton was the [musical director](/source/Musical_director) for [Andy Kaufman](/source/Andy_Kaufman)'s show at [Carnegie Hall](/source/Carnegie_Hall). He was also featured in the 1980 movie *Andy Kaufman Plays Carnegie Hall* and as an actor in the [motion picture](/source/Motion_picture) *[Man on the Moon](/source/Man_on_the_Moon_(film))*, starring [Jim Carrey](/source/Jim_Carrey). He appeared in the 2015 [documentary](/source/Documentary) *Kaufman Lives*.[3]

Sutton had a sub-publishing deal with Supreme Songs Ltd, and several of his songs were used in a number of television series. He embarked on a UK and European tour in November 2019.[citation needed]

## Death

Sutton died on October 22, 2023, at the age of 74.[4]
