Doud was the chief economist for the [National Cattlemen's Beef Association](/source/National_Cattlemen's_Beef_Association) for eight years. He then joined the [United States Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition and Forestry](/source/United_States_Senate_Committee_on_Agriculture%2C_Nutrition_and_Forestry), working under U.S. Senators [Pat Roberts](/source/Pat_Roberts) and [Thad Cochran](/source/Thad_Cochran).
