# Greg Molins

**Gregory Lee Molins** (born 19 March 1976) is a former Irish [cricketer](/source/Cricket). A [left-arm orthodox](/source/Left-arm_orthodox_spin) spinner, he represented the [Irish national side](/source/Ireland_cricket_team) between 1996 and 1999, including at the [1997 ICC Trophy](/source/1997_ICC_Trophy).

Molins is part of a prominent Irish cricketing family, with his older brother, [Jason](/source/Jason_Molins), and cousin, [Lara](/source/Lara_Molins), also representing Ireland internationally.[1][2] He was born in [Dublin](/source/Dublin), and attended [The High School](/source/The_High_School,_Dublin) there, playing for the school team. He first came to prominence at the 1993 under-18 interprovincial tournament, taking three five-wicket hauls for [Leinster](/source/Leinster_Cricket_Union) to be named player of the tournament.[3] Molins made his senior interprovincial debut in 1994, and the following year debuted for the [Irish under-19 team](/source/Ireland_national_under-19_cricket_team).[4] His first senior match for Ireland came in a friendly against [Wales](/source/Wales_national_cricket_team) in June 1996.[3] Later in the year, in August, he made his [first-class](/source/First-class_cricket) debut, in what was then the annual fixture against [Scotland](/source/Scotland_national_cricket_team).[5]

At the 1997 ICC Trophy, Molins played in three of Ireland's matches, against [Gibraltar](/source/Gibraltar_national_cricket_team), the [United States](/source/United_States_national_cricket_team), and [Kenya](/source/Kenya_national_cricket_team), but took only two wickets.[6] His 1997 season also included [limited-overs](/source/Limited-overs_cricket) games for Ireland in two English competitions (the [Benson & Hedges Cup](/source/Benson_%26_Hedges_Cup) and the [NatWest Trophy](/source/Friends_Provident_Trophy)),[7] and also in the [Triple Crown Tournament](/source/Triple_Crown_Tournament).[4] Molins' last capped game for Ireland came in 1999, when he was only 23.[3] He continued playing interprovincial matches into the 2000s and [Leinster Senior League](/source/Leinster_Senior_League_(cricket)) matches into the 2010s, and toured [Namibia](/source/Namibia) with the [Marylebone Cricket Club](/source/Marylebone_Cricket_Club) (MCC) in 2001.[4] In 2008, Molins and his brother, both of Jewish extraction, were selected for an [Israeli](/source/Israel_national_cricket_team) composite side which played against [India A](/source/India_A_cricket_team) to celebrate the 60th anniversary of Israel's independence.[8] The team also included various other Jewish players from around the world (including [Adam Bacher](/source/Adam_Bacher), [Steven Herzberg](/source/Steven_Herzberg), [Michael Klinger](/source/Michael_Klinger), and [Bensiyon Songavkar](/source/Bensiyon_Songavkar)), and two non-Jewish guest players ([Roland Lefebvre](/source/Roland_Lefebvre) and [Jonty Rhodes](/source/Jonty_Rhodes)).[9] In April 2015, Molins was appointed a selector for the Irish national team.[10]
