Chevalier attended [Monroe-Woodbury High School](/source/Monroe-Woodbury_High_School) in [Central Valley, New York](/source/Central_Valley%2C_New_York). He then played college soccer at the [University of Albany](/source/University_of_Albany) from 1999 to 2002. In 2003, Chevalier played as an amateur with the [Albany Blackwatch Highlanders](/source/Albany_Blackwatch_Highlanders) of the fourth division [Premier Development League](/source/Premier_Development_League). He scored nine goals and was named to the All-PDL team. He began his professional career in 2004 with the [Pittsburgh Riverhounds](/source/Pittsburgh_Riverhounds) in the [USL Second Division](/source/USL_Second_Division).
