## Career

Barnes was defeated in the [2026 Republican primary](/source/2026_Alabama_House_of_Representatives_election#District_13) by [Mike Elliott](/source/Mike_Elliott_(Alabama_politician)), who had been disqualified in the earlier special election. Barnes received 42% of the vote.[5]
