The name Grayingham derives from the [Old English](/source/Old_English) ''Gra(ga)+inga+ham'' for "homestead of the family of a man named Graeg". The name is listed in the 1086 [Domesday Book](/source/Domesday_Book) as "Graingeham".<ref>Mills, A. D. (1991): ''A Dictionary of English Place-Names'', Oxford University Press.</ref>

Grayingham [Grade II*](/source/Listed_building) listed [Anglican](/source/Anglican) church is dedicated to [Saint Radegund](/source/Saint_Radegund).<ref name=NHLE>{{NHLE|num=1063350 |desc=Church of St Radegund|accessdate= 13 August 2011}}</ref> Originating from the 13th and 14th century, it was rebuilt in 1773 or 1797, leaving the [Early English](/source/English_Gothic_architecture) tower and west doorway intact. A further [restoration](/source/Victorian_restoration) was carried out in 1870 by [James Fowler](/source/James_Fowler_(architect)). The 19th-century [reredos](/source/reredos) is by A. B. Skipwith, and a copper-gilt [relief](/source/relief) of the [Crucifixion](/source/Crucifixion) is by [Conrad Dressler](/source/Conrad_Dressler).<ref name=NHLE/><ref name=Cox>Cox, J. An extension to the south of the church was completed in Spring 2025, the church now has the addition of a servery, Toilet and extra meeting space. 

==Notable people==

His sister, [Mabel Peacock](/source/Mabel_Peacock) (1856–1920), English folklorist and writer is buried beside him in the churchyard.
