==Education and career==
Farrell received his [BSc](/source/Bachelor_of_Science) from the [University of Surrey](/source/University_of_Surrey) and his [PhD](/source/Doctor_of_Philosophy) from the [University of Manchester](/source/University_of_Manchester). He worked at the [University of Oxford](/source/University_of_Oxford)'s Centre for Criminological Research before joining the [United Nations](/source/United_Nations) in the 1990s.
