It was described by Johnson and Boucot in 1967, and existed from the [Silurian](/source/Silurian) to the [Devonian](/source/Devonian) of [Australia](/source/Australia), [Austria](/source/Austria), [Canada](/source/Canada), [China](/source/China), the [Czech Republic](/source/Czech_Republic), [Italy](/source/Italy), [Tajikistan](/source/Tajikistan), and the [United States](/source/United_States).
