'''Gottenheim''' is an independent village at the northern tip of the [Tuniberg](/source/Tuniberg), 15&nbsp;km west of [Freiburg im Breisgau](/source/Freiburg_im_Breisgau). It is located in the administrative region [Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald](/source/Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald) in the federal state of [Baden-Württemberg](/source/Baden-W%C3%BCrttemberg), [Germany](/source/Germany).

Situated at an altitude of 207&nbsp;m in one of the warmest regions of Germany, Gottenheim has a population of 2,912.

The total area of Gottenheim is 2183 acres (8.83&nbsp;km<sup>2</sup>), which includes {{Convert|275|acre|km2}} of vines, {{Convert|538|acre|km2}} alluvial forest and some acres of half-bog.

The [Breisgau S-Bahn](/source/Breisgau_S-Bahn) operated ''[Breisachbahn](/source/Breisachbahn)'' railway line connects [Gottenheim station](/source/Gottenheim_station) to [Breisach](/source/Breisach) in the west and the national railway system ([Deutsche Bahn](/source/Deutsche_Bahn)) via [Freiburg im Breisgau](/source/Freiburg_im_Breisgau) in the east. The [Kaiserstuhlbahn](/source/Kaiserstuhlbahn) connects Gottenheim to [Endingen](/source/Endingen_am_Kaiserstuhl) and the towns, [Riegel am Kaiserstuhl](/source/Riegel_am_Kaiserstuhl), [Nimburg](/source/Nimburg%2C_Emmendingen) and [Bötzingen](/source/B%C3%B6tzingen), which lay in between.

By car Gottenheim can be reached via German [Autobahn](/source/Autobahn) A5, Frankfurt-Basel, using exit No.62 Freiburg-Mitte towards Umkirch and following signs.
