# Gordon Purdy

**Gordon Timlin Purdy** (1 July 1888 – 22 December 1974) was a [Liberal party](/source/Liberal_Party_of_Canada) member of the [House of Commons of Canada](/source/House_of_Commons_of_Canada), 1935-1945 and 1953–1957. He was born in [East Amherst, Nova Scotia](/source/East_Amherst,_Nova_Scotia) and became a lumber merchant by career.[1]

He was first elected to Parliament at the [Colchester—Hants](/source/Colchester%E2%80%94Hants) riding in the [1935 general election](/source/1935_Canadian_federal_election) then re-elected there in [1940](/source/1940_Canadian_federal_election). Purdy was defeated in the [1945 election](/source/1945_Canadian_federal_election) by [Frank Thomas Stanfield](/source/Frank_Thomas_Stanfield). When Stanfield left federal politics, Purdy won Colchester—Hants in the [1953 election](/source/1953_Canadian_federal_election). After serving his final House of Commons term, the [22nd Canadian Parliament](/source/22nd_Canadian_Parliament), Purdy was defeated by [Cyril Kennedy](/source/Cyril_Kennedy_(Canadian_politician)) of the [Progressive Conservative party](/source/Progressive_Conservative_Party_of_Canada) in the [1957 election](/source/1957_Canadian_federal_election).

Purdy was married to Alma Louise Kaiser in 1913. They had three daughters and a son, Eleanor, Joan, Marion and James.
