# Gordon Hopkinson

**Gordon Hopkinson** (born 19 June 1933) is an English former [footballer](/source/Association_football) who played as a [defender](/source/Defender_(association_football)).

## Career

Hopkinson played with [Beighton Miners Welfare](/source/Beighton_Miners_Welfare_F.C.), and in 1957, he played in the [Football League Second Division](/source/Football_League_Second_Division) with [Doncaster Rovers](/source/Doncaster_Rovers_F.C.).[1][2] He made his debut for Doncaster against [Fulham](/source/Fulham_F.C.).[3] The following season, he played with [Bristol City F.C.](/source/Bristol_City_F.C.)and played a total of 73 matches for two seasons.[1] In 1961, he played for [Cheltenham Town F.C.](/source/Cheltenham_Town_F.C.) in the [Southern Football League](/source/Southern_Football_League).[1] In the summer of 1962, he played abroad in the [Eastern Canada Professional Soccer League](/source/Eastern_Canada_Professional_Soccer_League) with [Toronto Italia](/source/Toronto_Italia).[1]

After the conclusion of the ECPSL season, he played in the [National Soccer League](/source/Canadian_National_Soccer_League) with [Toronto Ulster United](/source/Toronto_Ulster_United_FC).[4] In the winter of 1962, he played in the [German-American Soccer League](/source/Cosmopolitan_Soccer_League) with [New York Ukrainians](/source/New_York_Ukrainians).[4] He returned to Toronto Italia for the 1963 ECPSL season and assisted in securing the ECPSL Championship after defeating Montreal Cantalia.[5] Hopkinson re-signed with Italia for the 1964 season.[6] In the winter of 1964, he played in the [Pacific Coast Soccer League](/source/Pacific_Coast_Soccer_League_(1908%E2%80%931973)) with [Vancouver Columbus](/source/ICSF_Columbus_FC).[7]

After a stint in Western Canada, he returned to Toronto Italia in 1965 for his fourth season.[8] Throughout the season, he assisted Toronto in securing its second championship against [Hamilton Primos](/source/Hamilton_Steelers_(1958%E2%80%931967)).[9] After a four-year stint abroad, he returned to England in late 1965 to play in the Southern League with [Margate F.C.](/source/Margate_F.C.)[1] In his debut season with Margate, he appeared in 37 matches and was released after the season.[1] He returned to his former club, Toronto Italia (renamed Toronto Italia-Falcons), for the 1966 season.[10] In his final season with Toronto, he assisted in clinching the regular-season title.[11]
