**Goodview** is a city in [Winona County](/source/Winona_County,_Minnesota), [Minnesota](/source/Minnesota), United States. The population was 4,158 at the [2020 census](/source/2020_United_States_census).[3]

## Geography

According to the [United States Census Bureau](/source/United_States_Census_Bureau), the city has a total area of 2.49 square miles (6.45 km2); 2.25 square miles (5.83 km2) is land and 0.24 square miles (0.62 km2) is water.[4]

## Demographics

### 2020 census

As of the [2020 census](/source/2020_United_States_census), Goodview had a population of 4,158. The median age was 41.4 years. 20.2% of residents were under the age of 18 and 19.4% of residents were 65 years of age or older. For every 100 females there were 102.8 males, and for every 100 females age 18 and over there were 99.3 males age 18 and over.[5][6]

99.7% of residents lived in urban areas, while 0.3% lived in rural areas.[7]

There were 1,830 households in Goodview, of which 24.3% had children under the age of 18 living in them. Of all households, 47.3% were married-couple households, 18.7% were households with a male householder and no spouse or partner present, and 24.8% were households with a female householder and no spouse or partner present. About 30.2% of all households were made up of individuals and 11.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older.[5]

There were 1,969 housing units, of which 7.1% were vacant. The homeowner vacancy rate was 1.3% and the rental vacancy rate was 6.6%.[5]

### 2010 census

As of the [census](/source/Census) of 2010, there were 4,036 people, 1,660 households, and 1,127 families living in the city. The [population density](/source/Population_density) was 1,793.8 inhabitants per square mile (692.6 /km2). There were 1,750 housing units at an average density of 777.8 inhabitants per square mile (300.3 /km2). The racial makeup of the city was 96.0% [White](/source/White_(U.S._Census)), 0.8% [African American](/source/African_American_(U.S._Census)), 0.2% [Native American](/source/Native_American_(U.S._Census)), 1.8% [Asian](/source/Asian_(U.S._Census)), 0.5% from [other races](/source/Race_(U.S._Census)), and 0.7% from two or more races. [Hispanic](/source/Hispanic_(U.S._Census)) or [Latino](/source/Latino_(U.S._Census)) of any race were 2.1% of the population.

There were 1,660 households, of which 30.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 52.0% were [married couples](/source/Marriage) living together, 11.9% had a female householder with no husband present, 4.0% had a male householder with no wife present, and 32.1% were non-families. 23.9% of all households were made up of individuals, and 6.8% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.41 and the average family size was 2.85.

The median age in the city was 38.7 years. 22.4% of residents were under the age of 18; 9.6% were between the ages of 18 and 24; 26.5% were from 25 to 44; 28% were from 45 to 64; and 13.7% were 65 years of age or older. The gender makeup of the city was 49.4% male and 50.6% female.

### 2000 census

As of the [census](/source/Census) of 2000, there were 3,373 people, 1,375 households, and 966 families living in the city. The population density was 1,947.2 inhabitants per square mile (751.8 /km2). There were 1,419 housing units at an average density of 819.2 inhabitants per square mile (316.3 /km2). The racial makeup of the city was 97.45% [White](/source/White_(U.S._Census)), 0.39% [African American](/source/African_American_(U.S._Census)), 0.15% [Native American](/source/Native_American_(U.S._Census)), 1.16% [Asian](/source/Asian_(U.S._Census)), 0.27% from [other races](/source/Race_(United_States_Census)), and 0.59% from two or more races. [Hispanic](/source/Hispanic_(U.S._Census)) or [Latino](/source/Latino_(U.S._Census)) of any race were 0.95% of the population.

There were 1,375 households, out of which 34.3% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 57.7% were [married couples](/source/Marriage) living together, 9.9% had a female householder with no husband present, and 29.7% were non-families. 24.2% of all households were made up of individuals, and 7.6% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.45 and the average family size was 2.92.

In the city, the population was spread out, with 25.7% under the age of 18, 8.7% from 18 to 24, 30.1% from 25 to 44, 24.5% from 45 to 64, and 11.0% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 36 years. For every 100 females, there were 94.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 92.5 males.

The median income for a household in the city was $43,654, and the median income for a family was $52,837. Males had a median income of $36,788 versus $23,554 for females. About 3.8% of families and 6.2% of the population were below the [poverty line](/source/Poverty_line), including 7.7% of those under age 18 and 6.7% of those age 65 or over.

## Transportation

Two [Amtrak](/source/Amtrak) passenger train services run through Goodview on [CPKC](/source/Canadian_Pacific_Kansas_City) tracks, but do not stop. The [nearest station](/source/Winona_station) is 3 miles (4.8 km) to the east in neighboring [Winona](/source/Winona,_Minnesota), where the long-distance *[Empire Builder](/source/Empire_Builder)* operates between [Seattle](/source/Seattle)/[Portland](/source/Portland,_Oregon) and [Chicago](/source/Chicago), and the shorter-distance *[Borealis](/source/Borealis_(train))* operates between [Saint Paul](/source/Saint_Paul,_Minnesota) and Chicago.
