The '''Goodnow Library''' is an historic public [library](/source/library) building located at 21 Concord Road in [Sudbury, Massachusetts](/source/Sudbury%2C_Massachusetts). It is named for Sudbury-native John Goodnow II, who died in 1851 and left to the town of Sudbury a {{convert|3|acre|adj=on}} site for a library, $2,500 to build it, and $20,000 to buy books and to maintain it.<ref>{{Cite web |title=About Us - Goodnow Library |url=https://goodnowlibrary.org/about/our-library/about-us/ |url-status=live |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20221202105236/https://goodnowlibrary.org/about/our-library/about-us/ |archive-date=2 December 2022 |access-date=16 March 2023 |website=Goodnow Library}}</ref> Construction of the two-story [octagon](/source/octagon)-shaped building began in 1862 and was finished in 1863. In the 1990s, the library was expanded to its present size, but the original octagon survives as a reading room.<ref name="nris"/><ref>{{cite web |url=https://www.sudbury.org/history |title=Sudbury History |website=Sudbury Chamber of Commerce |access-date=June 28, 2022}}</ref><ref>{{Cite web |url=http://www.sudbury.ma.us/mapnav/images/goodnow.png |title=Floor plan of present library showing octagon |access-date=2008-06-27 |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20071217101702/http://sudbury.ma.us/mapnav/images/goodnow.png |archive-date=2007-12-17 |url-status=dead }}</ref>

On May 22, 2002, it was added to the [National Register of Historic Places](/source/National_Register_of_Historic_Places).<ref name="nris"/>
