The '''Golden Ears''' is the name used by the Bivouac Mountain Encyclopedia for a group of mountains in the southern portion of [Golden Ears Provincial Park](/source/Golden_Ears_Provincial_Park), and visible to most of the [Lower Mainland](/source/Lower_Mainland) of [British Columbia](/source/British_Columbia). It is a part of the [Garibaldi Ranges](/source/Garibaldi_Ranges), and is located in [Golden Ears Provincial Park](/source/Golden_Ears_Provincial_Park).

Historically there has been confusion regarding the name of the area. Originally, the [massif](/source/massif) was referred to as ''The Golden Eyries'',<ref>Fairley-86</ref><ref name="Ricker-CAJ83">Ricker-CAJ83</ref> which became corrupted to ''Golden Ears'' in reference to the pointy ears-like shape of the [double summit](/source/double_summit) of the mountain now named [Golden Ears](/source/Golden_Ears_(mountain)). Although already known as the Golden Ears, the mountain was dubbed ''Mount Blanshard'' by Lieut. [Richard Charles Mayne](/source/Richard_Charles_Mayne) in 1859, in honour of the first governor of the colony of [Vancouver Island](/source/Vancouver_Island).<ref>{{BCGNIS|5754|Blanshard, Mount}}</ref>

Some time after this, the peaks in the area were conferred their existing names:

* [Edge Peak](/source/Edge_Peak) {{Convert|1680|m|ft|0|abbr=on}}, a large blocky summit in the center of the group, named for Sam Edge who climbed it in 1876<ref name="Ricker-CAJ83"/>
* [Blanshard Peak](/source/Blanshard_Peak) {{Convert|1550|m|ft|0|abbr=on}}, the dramatic peak at the southernmost end of the group, also known as ''The Blanshard Needle''<ref>''Canadian Mountain Encyclopedia'' entry</ref>
