Samuelson unsuccessfully contested the [1885 general election](/source/1885_United_Kingdom_general_election) in the [Tewkesbury](/source/Tewkesbury_(UK_Parliament_constituency)) division of [Gloucestershire](/source/Gloucestershire).<ref name="craig">{{cite book |last=Craig |first=F.
