# Godfrey Kelly

**Sir Godfrey Kelly** [KCMG](/source/Knight_Commander_of_the_Order_of_St_Michael_and_St_George) (21 December 1928 – 10 February 2022) was a Bahamian [sailor](/source/Sailing_(sport)), born in the [Bahamas](/source/Crown_Colony_of_the_Bahamas), who competed in the [1960](/source/1960_Summer_Olympics), [1964](/source/1964_Summer_Olympics), [1968](/source/1968_Summer_Olympics), and [1972 Summer Olympics](/source/1972_Summer_Olympics).[1]

Kelly was educated at [Queen's College, Nassau](/source/Queen's_College,_Nassau), and McDonogh College Prep School, [Baltimore](/source/Baltimore), before training in law at [Cambridge University](/source/Cambridge_University) and [Middle Temple, London](/source/Middle_Temple).[2] He served in the [cabinet](/source/Cabinet_of_the_Bahamas) of [Sir Roland Symonette](/source/Roland_Theodore_Symonette) as [Minister of Education](/source/Ministry_of_Education_(The_Bahamas)) between 1964 and 1967.[3]

Kelly was appointed [Companion of the Order of St Michael and St George](/source/Order_of_St_Michael_and_St_George) (CMG) in the [1999 Birthday Honours](/source/1999_Birthday_Honours)[4] and promoted to [Knight Commander](/source/Knight_Commander_of_the_Order_of_St_Michael_and_St_George) in the [2020 New Year Honours](/source/2020_New_Year_Honours).[5] He died in [Nassau](/source/Nassau,_Bahamas) on 10 February 2022, at the age of 93.[6][7]
