**Goderich County** was one of the 26 [counties of Western Australia](/source/Counties_of_Western_Australia) that were designated in 1829 as [cadastral divisions](/source/Lands_administrative_divisions_of_Western_Australia). It was named after [F. J. Robinson, 1st Viscount Goderich](/source/F._J._Robinson,_1st_Viscount_Goderich), [Prime Minister of the United Kingdom](/source/Prime_Minister_of_the_United_Kingdom) from August 1827 to January 1828.

It approximately corresponds to the northern part of the [Hay Land District](/source/Hay_Land_District) and the southwestern part of the [Kojonup Land District](/source/Kojonup_Land_District) which form the basis for land titles in the area.[1]
