# Ginger Gilmour

**Ginger Gilmour** (born **Virginia Hasenbein**; January 19, 1949) is an American artist, sculptor, and former model.[1][2] Between 1975 and 1990, she was married to [Pink Floyd](/source/Pink_Floyd) guitarist [David Gilmour](/source/David_Gilmour). Since their divorce, she has lived in England.

## Personal life

From 1962 to 1966, Hasenbein studied at [Wayne Memorial High School](/source/Wayne_Memorial_High_School) in [Wayne, Michigan](/source/Wayne,_Michigan), and graduated [cum laude](/source/Cum_laude).[3] She then undertook a two-year foundation course in chemical engineering and art at [Michigan State University](/source/Michigan_State_University).[3]

Hasenbein met David Gilmour in [Ann Arbor, Michigan](/source/Ann_Arbor,_Michigan), in October 1971, while accompanying her then boyfriend backstage at a [Pink Floyd](/source/Pink_Floyd) concert.[4] She described their meeting as "love at first sight",[4] and they married on July 7, 1975[2][4] with the wedding reception held at [Abbey Road Studios](/source/Abbey_Road_Studios). The couple had four children:[4] Alice (born 1976), Clare (born 1979), Sara (born 1981, now a fashion stylist[5]), and Matthew (born 1985).[6]

She is depicted on the inner sleeve of Gilmour's 1978 [eponymous first solo album](/source/David_Gilmour_(album)). They separated during Pink Floyd's [1987–89 world tour](/source/A_Momentary_Lapse_of_Reason_Tour) and later divorced.[citation needed] She published a book about her life with him, *Memoirs of the Bright Side of the Moon*, in 2015.

## Art

Gilmour studied for eight years with the English artist [Cecil Collins](/source/Cecil_Collins_(artist)).[2] She now works from her 15th-century farmhouse[4] near [Yapton](/source/Yapton), West Sussex,[7] where she has created several studios.[4] A recurring theme in her work is angels.[4] She also teaches art[4] and a form of [esoteric healing](/source/Esoteric_healing) called 'Mental Colour Healing'. Her work has been exhibited in a number of galleries and other venues,[8] including[8] [Mall Galleries](/source/Mall_Galleries), London, [Arundel Castle](/source/Arundel_Castle), and the [German Embassy in London](/source/Embassy_of_Germany,_London). She worked in partnership with California-based artists Dana Lynne Anderson and Annie Harrison under the 'Renowned Artist' brand.[9] She has been commissioned to produce work for gardens at the [Hampton Court Flower Show](/source/Hampton_Court_Flower_Show) and [Gardeners' World Live](/source/Gardeners'_World_Live)[8][10] and has illustrated books by Phil Murray.[8] As of July 2011, her 11-foot sculpture inspired by the [Olympic Games](/source/Olympic_Games) is installed at [Heathrow Airport](/source/Heathrow_Airport)'s [Terminal 5](/source/Heathrow_Terminal_5).[11]

Gilmour is a member of the [Society of Women Artists](/source/Society_of_Women_Artists).[4] In June 2007, she received a [British Red Cross](/source/British_Red_Cross) Award for 'Services to Humanity'.[8][12]
