She presented local programmes for [BBC](/source/BBC) [Birmingham](/source/Birmingham) in the late 1970s and early 1980s, she has worked for the ''[Daily Telegraph](/source/Daily_Telegraph)'', been a guest presenter on the Radio 4 programme ''[Midweek](/source/Midweek_(BBC_Radio_4))'' and chaired the literary quiz ''[Slightly Foxed](/source/Slightly_Foxed)'' on [BBC Radio 4](/source/BBC_Radio_4).

Pyrah was in the news during the 2004 [Chelsea Flower Show](/source/Chelsea_Flower_Show) after an incident between garden designer and television presenter [Diarmuid Gavin](/source/Diarmuid_Gavin) and the contestant in the neighbouring garden, ''[Gardeners' Question Time](/source/Gardeners'_Question_Time)'' panellist [Bunny Guinness](/source/Bunny_Guinness).
