The village of Rossens is first mentioned in 1162 as ''Rossens''.  It was formerly known by its German name ''Rossing'', however, that name is no longer used.<ref name=HDS_Rossens>{{HDS|976|Rossens}}</ref>

==Geography==
Gibloux has an area, (as of the 2004/09 survey) of {{Swiss area|2236|mi=on|eid=Q19843360}}.{{Swiss area data|2236|QUELLE|eid=Q19843360}}  Of this area, about 63.8% is used for agricultural purposes, while 23.9% is forested.  Of the rest of the land, 11.6% is settled (buildings or roads) and 0.7% is unproductive land.  In the 2013/18 survey a total of {{convert|276|ha|acre|abbr=on}} or about 7.6% of the total area was covered with buildings.  Of the agricultural land, {{convert|14|ha|acre|abbr=on}} is used for orchards and vineyards, {{convert|2215|ha|acre|abbr=on}} is fields and grasslands and {{convert|53|ha|acre|abbr=on}} consists of alpine grazing areas.  Since 1981 the amount of agricultural land has decreased by {{convert|181|ha|acre|abbr=on}}.  Over the same time period the amount of forested land has increased by {{convert|16|ha|acre|abbr=on}}. ==Demographics==

Over the last 4 years (2010-2014) the population has changed at a rate of 13.39%.
