**Gibeon Constituency** is an [electoral constituency](/source/Constituencies_of_Namibia) in the [Hardap Region](/source/Hardap_Region) of [Namibia](/source/Namibia). The administrative centre of the constituency is the village of [Gibeon](/source/Gibeon%2C_Namibia) ([Khoekhoe](/source/Khoekhoe_language): *Khaxa-tsûs*). It had a population of 12,122 in 2011, up from 11,541 in 2001.[1]

The constituency originally covered an area of 50,365 km2 (19,446 sq mi).[1] In August 2013, Gibeon Constituency lost the western part of its territory, which became a constituency of its own, namely [Daweb Constituency](/source/Daweb_Constituency).[2] As of 2020[\[update\]](https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Gibeon_Constituency&action=edit) the constituency had 3,951 registered voters.[3]

## Politics

Gibeon Constituency is traditionally a stronghold of the [South West Africa People's Organization](/source/South_West_Africa_People's_Organization) (SWAPO) party. In the [2004 regional election](/source/2004_Namibian_local_and_regional_elections), SWAPO candidate Karl Kisting received 1,769 of the 3,145 votes cast and became councillor.[4]

The [2015 regional elections](/source/Namibian_local_and_regional_elections%2C_2015) were won by Jeremias van Neel of [SWAPO](/source/SWAPO) with 1,255 votes. Niklaas Jacobus Dawson of the [Rally for Democracy and Progress](/source/Rally_for_Democracy_and_Progress_(Namibia)) (RDP) came second with 206 votes, followed by Geoffrey Keramen of the [Democratic Turnhalle Alliance](/source/Democratic_Turnhalle_Alliance) (DTA) with 122 votes.[5] The [2020 regional election](/source/2020_Namibian_local_and_regional_elections) was narrowly won by Paul Isaak of the [Landless People's Movement](/source/Landless_People's_Movement_(Namibia)) (LPM, a new party registered in 2018). He obtained 890 votes. The sitting councillor van Neel (SWAPO) came second with 769 votes.[6]
