It was established in 2004 by songwriters [Rory Lee Feek](/source/Rory_Lee_Feek) and [Tim Johnson](/source/Tim_Johnson_(songwriter)) in [Nashville, Tennessee](/source/Nashville%2C_Tennessee). The label is known for releasing the debut album of [Blaine Larsen](/source/Blaine_Larsen), as well as charting the Christmas single "Bring Him Home Santa", credited to Song Trust.

Songwriters included [Rory Lee Feek](/source/Rory_Lee_Feek) born in [Atchison, Kansas](/source/Atchison%2C_Kansas). Feek has co-written [Blake Shelton](/source/Blake_Shelton)'s Number One single "[Some Beach](/source/Some_Beach)", as well as Top 5 hits for [Clay Walker](/source/Clay_Walker) ("[The Chain of Love](/source/The_Chain_of_Love)") and [Collin Raye](/source/Collin_Raye) ("Someone You Used to Know"). He and Joey Martin founded the duo [Joey + Rory](/source/Joey_%2B_Rory) in 2008. [Tim Johnson](/source/Tim_Johnson_(songwriter)), cofounder, grew up in western Oregon. He has written more than one hundred country music songs for other artists, including hits for [George Strait](/source/George_Strait), [Mark Chesnutt](/source/Mark_Chesnutt), [Tracy Byrd](/source/Tracy_Byrd), [Diamond Rio](/source/Diamond_Rio), and [Alan Jackson](/source/Alan_Jackson). Other writers added later to the list included [Helen Darling](/source/Helen_Darling_(singer)), [Blaine Larsen](/source/Blaine_Larsen), Mandy McCauley (MixMasterMandy), Paul Sikes and Jamie Teachenor.

The label's first release was [Blaine Larsen](/source/Blaine_Larsen)'s 2004 album ''In My High School'', which was re-issued in 2005 as ''[Off to Join the World](/source/Off_to_Join_the_World)'' on [BNA Records](/source/BNA_Records) in association with Giantslayer.

In December 2007, Giantslayer and [Capitol Records](/source/Capitol_Records) released a Christmas song entitled "Bring Him Home Santa". Song Trust released an album, ''The Dog Singer'', on June 16, 2009. The album's first single, "Choose Me," was released to country radio in July 2009.
