"**Get on the Good Foot**" is a [funk](/source/Funk) song performed by American musician [James Brown](/source/James_Brown). It was released in May 1972 by [Polydor Records](/source/Polydor_Records) as a two-part [single](/source/Single_(music)) that peaked at numbers one and 18 on the US *[Billboard](/source/Billboard_(magazine))* [Hot R&B](/source/Hot_R%26B) and [Hot 100](/source/Hot_100) charts.[1][2] It also appeared on an [album of the same name](/source/Get_on_the_Good_Foot_(album)) released that year. Partly due to the unwillingness of Brown's record labels to [certify](/source/RIAA_certification) sales of his previous hits, "Get on the Good Foot" was his first [gold record](/source/Music_recording_sales_certification).[3] *Billboard* ranked it as the No. 99 song for 1972.[4] In 2022, *[Rolling Stone](/source/Rolling_Stone)* ranked it number 15 in their list of the "200 Greatest Dance Songs of All Time".[5]
