**Gerlib Creek** is a [tributary](/source/Tributary) of [Bourgeaux Creek](/source/Bourgeaux_Creek) and part of the [Stikine River](/source/Stikine_River) [watershed](/source/Drainage_basin) in northwest part of the [province](/source/Provinces_and_territories_of_Canada) of [British Columbia](/source/British_Columbia), [Canada](/source/Canada).[1][6] It flows generally east and south for roughly 10.5 km (6.5 mi)[4] to join the Bourgeaux Creek, a tributary of the [Little Iskut River](/source/Little_Iskut_River), which in turn is a tributary of the [Iskut River](/source/Iskut_River), the largest tributary of the Stikine River.

Gerlib Creek's mean annual [discharge](/source/Discharge_(hydrology)) is estimated at 0.938 m3/s (33.1 cu ft/s). Its [watershed](/source/Drainage_basin) covers 24.4 km2 (9.4 sq mi) and is entirely in [Mount Edziza Provincial Park](/source/Mount_Edziza_Provincial_Park). The watershed's [land cover](/source/Land_cover) is classified as 50.4% [barren](/source/Barren_vegetation), 22.0% [conifer forest](/source/Conifer), 10.8% [shrubland](/source/Shrubland), 9.5% [herbaceous](/source/Herbaceous_plant), 6.9% [snow](/source/Snow)/[glacier](/source/Glacier), and small amounts of other cover.[5]

The mouth of Gerlib Creek is located about 60 km (37 mi) southeast of [Telegraph Creek](/source/Telegraph_Creek), British Columbia, about 105 km (65 mi) south of [Dease Lake](/source/Dease_Lake), British Columbia, and about 250 km (160 mi) southeast of [Juneau, Alaska](/source/Juneau%2C_Alaska).[4]

Gerlib Creek is in [Mount Edziza Provincial Park](/source/Mount_Edziza_Provincial_Park), which lies within the traditional territory of the [Tahltan First Nation](/source/Tahltan_First_Nation), of the [Tahltan](/source/Tahltan) people.[7][8]

Gerlib Creek is named after Robert Gerlib, a student who worked with Canadian [volcanologist](/source/Volcanologist) [Jack Souther](/source/Jack_Souther) at the [Mount Edziza volcanic complex](/source/Mount_Edziza_volcanic_complex) in 1958. Gerlib was killed in a [mining](/source/Mining) accident the following year.[9]

## Geography

Gerlib Creek originates on the north side of [Tadeda Peak](/source/Tadeda_Peak), about 18 km (11 mi) south of [Mount Edziza](/source/Mount_Edziza). From its source, Gerlib Creek flows east between [Armadillo Peak](/source/Armadillo_Peak) to the south and [Esja Peak](https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Esja_Peak&action=edit&redlink=1) to the north. Then it turns south, flowing by [Hoyaa Peak](https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Hoyaa_Peak&action=edit&redlink=1) before emptying into Bourgeaux Creek.[2][10]
