# Gerald Colin

**Gerald Fitzmaurice Colin** (1913–1995) was the fourth [Bishop of Grimsby](/source/Bishop_of_Grimsby) in the [Church of England](/source/Church_of_England).

## Life

Educated at [Mountjoy School](/source/Mount_Temple_Comprehensive_School) and [Trinity College, Dublin](/source/Trinity_College,_Dublin),[1] Colin was [ordained](/source/Ordained) in 1937. His first post was at St George's, Dublin,[2] and after [wartime](/source/Second_World_War) service in the [Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve](/source/Royal_Air_Force_Volunteer_Reserve) he became [vicar](/source/Vicar) of St Lawrence's, [Frodingham](/source/Frodingham,_Lincolnshire).[3] From 1966 he was for 13 years one of the [Bishop of Lincoln](/source/Kenneth_Riches)'s two [suffragan bishops](/source/Suffragan_bishop), the other being the [Bishop of Grantham](/source/Bishop_of_Grantham). He was a [proctor](/source/Proctor) in the [Convocation](/source/Convocation_of_the_English_Clergy) of the Church of England from 1960 to 1970. Until his death he continued to serve as an [assistant bishop](/source/Assistant_bishop) in the [Diocese of Lincoln](/source/Diocese_of_Lincoln).
