# Geraint Morris

**Geraint Morris** (28 March 1941 – 12 July 1997) was a profound [Welsh](/source/Wales) [film](/source/Film) and [television](/source/Television) director and producer.

## Career

Morris joined [BBC Wales](/source/BBC_Wales) in 1963 after graduating from the University College of North Wales in [Bangor](/source/Bangor,_Gwynedd).[1]

His first work as a director was on *[Sutherland's Law](/source/Sutherland's_Law)*. Later contributions included *[Barlow at Large](/source/Barlow_at_Large)*, *[The Onedin Line](/source/The_Onedin_Line)* and *[Juliet Bravo](/source/Juliet_Bravo)*.[1]

During the 1970s, Morris became a [producer](/source/Television_producer), beginning with the television [police](/source/Police) drama *[Softly, Softly: Task Force](/source/Softly,_Softly:_Taskforce)*, from 1973 to 1976.[2]

By 1980, Morris had completed his career change to dedicate his working life to TV producing. He helped create the highly successful and long running [hospital](/source/Hospital) drama *[Casualty](/source/Casualty_(TV_series))* and contributed to the series for its first three seasons before leaving at the end of 1988.[2] He also produced 12 episodes of the police drama *[The Bill](/source/The_Bill)* during 1989 before returning to *Casualty* in 1990 for two series. His final contributions to television production were *[Wycliffe](/source/Wycliffe_(TV_series))* and *Summer of Love*, both of which were aired in 1997. [1]

When the BBC series *[Casualty](/source/Casualty_(TV_series))* built a new set in [Cardiff](/source/Cardiff), they dedicated a ward to the late and much loved co-creator of the show Geraint Morris. The ward appears in many episodes and serves a great respect in connotation and dedication Morris had to TV. “Geraint Morris Ward” is located on the first floor of the set.[3]

## Death

Geraint Morris died of lung cancer in July 1997, at the age of 56.[1]
