'''Geosoft Incorporated''' is a [software](/source/software) development and services company headquartered in [Toronto](/source/Toronto), Canada. The company provides [geophysical](/source/geophysical) and [geological](/source/geological) software and geospatial server technology for professional geoscientists involved in [natural resource](/source/natural_resource) [exploration](/source/exploration) and related [earth science](/source/earth_science) disciplines.<ref>{{cite web | url=http://www.branham300.com/details.php?year=2012&company_ID=131 | title=Branham300: Geosoft | year=2012 | publisher=Branham Group Inc | accessdate=2012-04-27}}</ref>

==History==

Geosoft was founded in [Toronto](/source/Toronto) in 1982 as a partnership between [Ian MacLeod](/source/Ian_N._MacLeod) and [Colin Reeves](/source/Colin_V._Reeves)<ref>{{cite web |url=http://www.geosoft.com/about-geosoft/company/history-and-mission |title=The Geosoft Story | publisher=Geosoft Inc | accessdate=2012-04-02}}</ref> to develop [geophysical](/source/geophysical) software for [geophysical exploration](/source/exploration_geophysics) and [geotechnical engineering](/source/geotechnical_engineering) applications. The interests of the partnership and the [trademark](/source/trademark) "Geosoft" were purchased by [Paterson, Grant and Watson Ltd.](/source/Paterson%2C_Grant_and_Watson_Ltd.) in 1984,<ref>{{cite web | url=http://www.cipo.ic.gc.ca/app/opic-cipo/trdmrks/srch/vwTrdmrk.do?lang=eng&status=OK&fileNumber=0516757&extension=0&startingDocumentIndexOnPage=1 | title=Canadian Trade-Mark Data: Geosoft | publisher=Canadian Trade-marks Database, Canadian Intellectual Property Office | accessdate=2012-04-27}}</ref> who continued to develop Geosoft branded software for geophysical applications.

The software interests of Paterson, Grant and Watson were [spun off](/source/Corporate_spin-off) to form Geosoft Incorporated on February 1, 1986.

In July, 2007, Geosoft acquired the software rights to the potential-field modelling program GM-SYS from [Corvallis, Oregon](/source/Corvallis%2C_Oregon) company [Northwest Geophysical Associates](/source/Northwest_Geophysical_Associates)
.<ref>{{cite web |url=http://www.directionsmag.com/pressreleases/geosoft-announces-its-acquisition-of-nga146s-gm-sys-software-and-intellectu/112418|title=Geosoft acquires GM-SYS from NGA |publisher=Directions Magazine | year=2007 | accessdate=2012-04-27}}</ref> As part of the acquisition the research company Geosoft (USA) Research Inc. was established in [Corvallis, Oregon](/source/Corvallis%2C_Oregon) to employ the GM-SYS development team and continue development of GM-SYS and related technologies.

In December 2018, Geosoft was acquired by Seequent<ref>{{cite web |url=https://www.seequent.com/seequent-completes-geosoft-acquisition/|title=Seequent Completes Acquisition of Geosoft|year=2018 |accessdate=2020-05-18}}</ref>
