# Georgia Hubley

**Georgia Mira Hubley**[1] (born February 9, 1957) is an American [percussionist](/source/Percussionist), [vocalist](/source/Vocalist), and visual artist. She is one of the two [founding members](/source/Entrepreneur) of the [indie rock](/source/Indie_rock) band [Yo La Tengo](/source/Yo_La_Tengo),[2] and is married to the group's other founding member, guitarist/vocalist [Ira Kaplan](/source/Ira_Kaplan), with whom she lives in Manhattan.[3][4] The two would often see each other in record shops and at the same shows. They formed the band in 1984, and released their first album, [*Ride the Tiger*](/source/Ride_the_Tiger_(album)), in 1986 on the [Coyote label](/source/Coyote_Records).

In addition to being the drummer and vocalist, Hubley has designed covers for the band's releases. She also plays occasional guitar, keyboard, and [drum machine](/source/Drum_machine) on the band's recordings.[5]

Hubley is a daughter of [UPA Studios](/source/UPA_(animation_studio)) animators [John Hubley](/source/John_Hubley) and [Faith Elliott Hubley](/source/Faith_Hubley), and a sister of [Emily Hubley](/source/Emily_Hubley).[6]
