Georgian Governorate, 1823

The **Georgian Governorate** ([Russian](/source/Russian_language): Грузинская губерния; [Georgian](/source/Georgian_language): საქართველოს გუბერნია) was one of the *[guberniyas](/source/Guberniya)* of the [Caucasus Viceroyalty](/source/Caucasus_Viceroyalty_(1801%E2%80%931917)) of the [Russian Empire](/source/Russian_Empire). Its capital was [Tiflis](/source/Tbilisi) (Tbilisi). It was divided into [uyezds](/source/Uyezd) of [Gori](/source/Gori%2C_Georgia), [Dusheti](/source/Dusheti) (Its center was Tbilisi), [Lori](/source/Lori_Province), [Signagi](/source/Signagi) and [Telavi](/source/Telavi).

The Georgia governorate was established in 1801 following the Russian annexation of the [Kingdom of Kartli-Kakheti](/source/Kingdom_of_Kartli-Kakheti). In 1840 it was expanded to form the [Georgia-Imeretia Governorate](/source/Georgia-Imeretia_Governorate), incorporating the territory of the [Imeretia Oblast](https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Imeretia_Oblast&action=edit&redlink=1) (Its center was Kutaisi and was constituted from uyezds of Kutaisi, Vakha, Rakvta (Raczyn during Russian rule), Sachkhere, Cheri and Bagdati) and [Armenian Oblast](/source/Armenian_Oblast) (Its center was [Erivan](/source/Yerevan)).
