**George Simpson** (1880–1952) was a New Zealand naturalist and botanist.[2] He was born in [Dunedin](/source/Dunedin), the son of a master builder.[3][1] He, too, became a builder and valuer, working as Crown Valuer from about 1943 until early 1950. However, he, together with [John Scott Simpson](https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=John_Scott_Simpson&action=edit&redlink=1), became interested in collecting and growing New Zealand native plants and by 1925 both were well known within the New Zealand botanical community.[1]

In 1930, he was elected a fellow of the Linnean Society,[3] In 1945, he published his monograph on *[Carmichaelia](/source/Carmichaelia)*.[4] In 1949 he was elected a fellow of the [Royal Society of New Zealand](/source/Royal_Society_of_New_Zealand), [FRSNZ](/source/FRSNZ).[1][3]

The standard [author abbreviation](/source/List_of_botanists_by_author_abbreviation_(A)) G.Simpson is used to indicate this person as the author when [citing](/source/Author_citation_(botany)) a [botanical name](/source/Botanical_name).[5]
