# George Mells

**George John Mells Jr.** (born 23 May 1997) is an Australian professional [footballer](/source/Association_football) who plays as a [central midfielder](/source/Midfielder_(association_football)) for [Port Melbourne SC](/source/Port_Melbourne_SC) in the [NPL Victoria](/source/NPL_Victoria).

## Football career

Born in [Melbourne](/source/Melbourne), Mells played youth football for [Chelsea](/source/Chelsea_F.C.) and [Southampton](/source/Southampton_F.C.) before returning to Australia to make his professional debut for [Adelaide United](/source/Adelaide_United_FC) in 2015.[1]

His contract with [Brisbane Roar](/source/Brisbane_Roar_FC) was terminated by mutual agreement on 23 February 2021.[2] He played no A-league games for Brisbane Roar. A couple of days later he joined [NPL Victoria](/source/NPL_Victoria) club [Port Melbourne](/source/Port_Melbourne_SC).[3]

Mells has appeared numerous times for Australian youth teams, having also previously represented [Greece U17s](/source/Greece_national_under-17_football_team).

In 2023, Mells won the [NPL Victoria](/source/NPL_Victoria) Premiership and Championship with [Avondale FC](/source/Avondale_FC), becoming the only footballer in the NPL era (2014 onwards) to have secured both the [A-League](/source/A-League) and [NPL Victoria](/source/NPL_Victoria) doubles.
