His father, [George Calvert](/source/George_Calvert_(planter)) (1768–1838), was the son of [Benedict Swingate Calvert](/source/Benedict_Swingate_Calvert) – a natural son of [Charles Calvert, 5th Baron Baltimore](/source/Charles_Calvert%2C_5th_Baron_Baltimore) – and his wife [Elizabeth Calvert](/source/Elizabeth_Calvert) (1731–1788).
