**George Henry Simmons Garton** (born 15 April 1997) is an English international [cricketer](/source/Cricket) who plays for the [England national cricket team](/source/England_cricket_team) and [Warwickshire County Cricket Club](/source/Warwickshire_County_Cricket_Club). He is a left-handed [batsman](/source/Batting_(cricket)) who bowls left-arm [fast](/source/Fast_bowling). He made his international debut for England in January 2022.[1]

## Domestic career

Garton made his [first-class](/source/First-class_cricket) debut for Sussex against the [Leeds/Bradford MCC University](/source/Leeds%2FBradford_MCC_University) side in April 2016.[2] Prior to his first-class debut, Garton was named in [England's U19 squad](/source/2016_Under-19_Cricket_World_Cup_squads) for the [2016 Under-19 Cricket World Cup](/source/2016_Under-19_Cricket_World_Cup).[3]

In August 2020, in the third round of matches in the [2020 Bob Willis Trophy](/source/2020_Bob_Willis_Trophy), Garton took his maiden [five-wicket haul](/source/Five-wicket_haul) in first-class cricket.[4] In 2021, he was drafted by [Southern Brave](/source/Southern_Brave) for the [inaugural season](/source/2021_season_of_The_Hundred) of [The Hundred](/source/The_Hundred_(cricket)).[5] He was the second highest wicket taker for Southern Brave with 10 wickets in 9 matches.

On 25 August 2021, Garton was included in the [Royal Challengers Bangalore](/source/Royal_Challengers_Bangalore) squad for the second phase of the [2021 Indian Premier League](/source/2021_Indian_Premier_League) (IPL) in the UAE.[6] He made his IPL debut on 29 September 2021 against [Rajasthan Royals](/source/Rajasthan_Royals).[7] In April 2022, he was bought by the [Southern Brave](/source/Southern_Brave) for the [2022 season](/source/2022_season_of_The_Hundred) of [The Hundred](/source/The_Hundred_(cricket)).[8]

In September 2022 Garton was bought by the [Joburg Super Kings](/source/Joburg_Super_Kings) for the inaugural season in the [SA20](/source/SA20_(cricket)) league in 2023.[9]

In November 2023 Garton joined [Warwickshire](/source/Warwickshire_County_Cricket_Club), having previously worked under Bears first-team coach [Mark Robinson](/source/Mark_Robinson_(cricketer%2C_born_1966)) at [Sussex](/source/Sussex_County_Cricket_Club).

## International career

In November 2017, Garton was added to England's [Test](/source/Test_cricket) squad for the [2017–18 Ashes series](/source/2017%E2%80%9318_Ashes_series) as cover for [Jake Ball](/source/Jake_Ball_(cricketer)).[10]

In June 2021, Garton was named in England's [One Day International](/source/One_Day_International) (ODI) squad for their series [against Sri Lanka](/source/Sri_Lankan_cricket_team_in_England_in_2021).[11]

In December 2021, Garton was named in England's [Twenty20 International](/source/Twenty20_International) (T20I) squad for their series [against the West Indies](/source/English_cricket_team_in_the_West_Indies_in_2021%E2%80%9322).[12] He made his T20I debut on 26 January 2022, for England against the [West Indies](/source/West_Indies_cricket_team).[13]
