Binks' professional career began in 1936 at the Class D level of [minor league baseball](/source/minor_league_baseball). After missing the wartime years of 1942–1943, he joined the 1944 [Milwaukee Brewers](/source/Milwaukee_Brewers_(American_Association)) of the top-level [American Association](/source/American_Association_(20th_century)) and [batted](/source/batting_average_(baseball)) a lofty .374 in an even 100 [games played](/source/games_played). He reached the majors that September with the Senators, spending all or parts of three years ({{mlby|1944}}–{{mlby|1946}}) with them before moving to the Athletics of [Connie Mack](/source/Connie_Mack) ({{mlby|1947}}–{{mlby|1948}}) and the Browns (1948). His most productive season came in {{mlby|1945}} with Washington, when he hit .278 with six [home run](/source/home_run)s and 81 [runs batted in](/source/runs_batted_in) in 145 [games played](/source/games_played), all career-highs.
