== Life ==

He was Supervisor of the [Town of Lancaster](/source/Lancaster%2C_New_York) from 1888 to 1891, and from 1893 to 1897; and a delegate to the [New York State Constitutional Convention](/source/New_York_State_Constitutional_Convention) of 1894.

He was a member of the [New York State Senate](/source/New_York_State_Senate) from 1896 to 1910, sitting in the [119th](/source/119th_New_York_State_Legislature), [120th](/source/120th_New_York_State_Legislature), [121st](/source/121st_New_York_State_Legislature), [122nd](/source/122nd_New_York_State_Legislature), [123rd](/source/123rd_New_York_State_Legislature), [124th](/source/124th_New_York_State_Legislature), [125th](/source/125th_New_York_State_Legislature), [126th](/source/126th_New_York_State_Legislature), [127th](/source/127th_New_York_State_Legislature), [128th](/source/128th_New_York_State_Legislature), [129th](/source/129th_New_York_State_Legislature) (all eleven 49th D.), [130th](/source/130th_New_York_State_Legislature), [131st](/source/131st_New_York_State_Legislature), [132nd](/source/132nd_New_York_State_Legislature) and [133rd New York State Legislature](/source/133rd_New_York_State_Legislature)s (all four 50th D.).

In 1909 Davis was among a trio of finalist judges, including, Sir [Byron Edmund Walker](/source/Byron_Edmund_Walker) of the [Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce](/source/Canadian_Imperial_Bank_of_Commerce) in Toronto and [Sir George Christie Gibbons](/source/George_Christie_Gibbons) of [London, Ontario](/source/London%2C_Ontario), all patrons of  the arts, whom were asked to join the selection committee for the [Bell Telephone Memorial](/source/Bell_Telephone_Memorial) and choose the design sculptor for a major Bell Telephone monument in [Brantford, Canada](/source/Brantford).<ref name="Expositor">Marquis, T.G.
